Subway and rail service changes: September 16-19

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated September 15, 2022 10:00 a.m.

It's almost fall, y'all! If you're looking for something to do this weekend, may we suggest checking out our vintage fleet? The New York Transit Museum's Parade of Trains will be at the Brighton Beach   station this weekend, with historic trains from the museum's collection — and admission is free with your subway fare.

Whatever you end up doing, we're here to help you get where you're going. Here are some of the bigger service changes:

  •  trains aren't running between 168 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St
  •  trains aren't running between Rockaway Blvd and Far Rockaway-Mott Av
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av
  •  trains aren’t running between 121 St and Jamaica Center

And if you're heading to JFK Airport, heads up:   trains won't be running to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport because of preventative maintenance work. There will also be an AirTrain outage from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Taking the   train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK or the LIRR to Jamaica is your best bet — you can catch the AirTrain to the airport at both. And during the AirTrain outage, shuttle buses will be running from every airline terminal, as well as from several AirTrain stops. Port Authority has more details on that.

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling — we’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.

These service changes are subject to change, so check the MTA homepage before heading out; it's where you'll find up-to-the-minute information on subway, bus, and rail service.

Want to get these service changes in your inbox? Sign up for the MTA Weekender, a newsletter sent every Friday that tracks planned weekend work across our subways and commuter railroads.
