Auditor General

Michele Woods has served as the Auditor General of the MTA since 2019. She is directly responsible for three distinct business functions, including oversight of the internal audit staff in the performance of Operational and Assurance Audits; oversight of the Pension Quality Assurance Process; and chairmanship of the Sandy Recovery Oversight Committee.

Woods’ team also performs an annual risk assessment of the MTA for the authority’s Annual Audit Plan. She coordinates with MTA leadership to determine the priorities and resource allocations required to meet the goals of MTA Audit Services.

Woods has over 35 years of internal audit experience, beginning her career at the Navy Exchange System before joining New York City Transit. In 1996, MTA Audit Services became one of the first MTA support functions to consolidate across agencies. As a result, Woods has performed audits at each of the operating agencies, working closely with agency management.

Woods graduated with a degree in Business from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, before moving to New York City. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
