Tom Taffe comes to the MTA after serving over 25 years in the New York City Police Department (NYPD). In his role as the MTAPD Chief of Operations, Administration, Chief Taffe ensures that the department adheres to the mission of the MTAPD and vision of the Chief of Police through the strategic management of all agency operations.

Chief Taffe graduated the NYPD Police Academy as the class of 1996 Valedictorian and began his career as a patrol officer in the Bronx. During his time in the NYPD, Tom served in various patrol commands in the Bronx and Manhattan. Chief Taffe also served several years as an NYPD Police Academy supervising instructor and training evaluator. As a police commander, he served as the executive officer in both the Midtown North precinct and the Office of Management Analysis and Planning. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2018 while working in the Office of the Police Commissioner. Most recently, he served as the Commanding Officer of the NYPD Management and Budget Bureau.

Chief Taffe was born and raised in the Bronx and currently lives in Westchester with his wife and two daughters. He has a bachelor’s degree in Police Science with a minor in Sociology, and a master’s degree in Economic Crime Management. Chief Taffe is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Columbia University Business School, Police Management Institute.
