Say hello to tap and go, with OMNY

We've started rolling out a new fast and convenient way to pay

We’ve launched the pilot of our new fare payment system, OMNY. Right now, you can use your contactless credit, debit, or reloadable prepaid card, or the digital wallet on your mobile phone or wearable, to pay the fare on the 4 5 6 between Grand Central-42 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, and all MTA-operated Staten Island buses.

Is OMNY right for me?

OMNY is only available on a pay-per-ride basis until every subway station, bus route, and the Staten Island Railway is outfitted with this new technology. Until OMNY comes to your station or bus, keep using your MetroCard and keep an eye out for updates and announcements as we add more subway stations and bus routes over the next few years.

Just tap

There are two ways to use OMNY:

Although cash isn’t accepted for OMNY right now, cash will always be an option to access MTA services. You still have the option to use MetroCard until OMNY rolls out system-wide.

How, when, and where you can use OMNY

  • OMNY honors the same free transfers between subway stations and buses as your MetroCard, as long as those locations have OMNY. If you plan to transfer at locations that don’t have OMNY, keep using your MetroCard.
  • Once OMNY is ready system-wide, we’ll add more fare options, including time-based passes, reduced fares, student fares, and more.
