Business Diversity Initiatives

Updated Apr 5, 2022

The Business and Diversity Initiatives Unit represents the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) at various Minority, Women, Disadvantaged-Owned Business Enterprise, and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (MWDBE/SDVOB) related outreach events.

Our goal is to maximize opportunities for Small Businesses through the MTA’s Discretionary Program, the Small Business Development Program and various programs managed by the Department of Diversity and Civil Rights. We strive to collaborate with community stakeholders and advocacy organizations so that together, we can build and strengthen relationships that will lead to the recruitment of qualified firms for MWDBE certification and access to contracting opportunities throughout our agencies.

The Business and Diversity Initiatives Unit hosts a quarterly New Firm Orientation Session with the goal of meeting newly certified firms and integrating them into our agency-wide procurement processes. The unit takes the lead on industry focused events held throughout the MTA’s 14-County service region with a primary interest toward increasing our vendor pool of certified minority firms and small business concerns.
