Subway and rail service changes: August 4-7

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated August 4, 2023 9:00 a.m.

Providing safe & reliable transportation is our core mission.

After a pause during the pandemic, we’re resuming our practice of adopting fare & toll increases every other year. This keeps changes predictable for riders and helps us keep you moving. On Sunday, August 20, these changes take effect:

The base fare for subway, local bus, and paratransit is changing to $2.90 and Reduced-Fare trips will cost $1.45.

When you tap with OMNY, you'll be able start your week anytime, take 12 paid trips, and then ride for free for the rest of the week. Since you don’t pay upfront, you never pay for trips you don’t take. Learn more.
