Subway and rail service changes: December 8-11

There are service changes on the subway and Long Island Rail Road this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated December 8, 2023 11:00 a.m.

We're firmly in the swing of the holiday season — Chag Sameach to those who celebrate! — and if you haven't started shopping for your loved ones, now's the time. You'll find unique gifts at New York's many holiday markets, and MTA Away has a guide to the best ones in the region. You can also visit one of the New York Transit Museum shop locations to snag a present for the railfan in your life. (We'd like a Subway Architecture and Design Map and a vintage Transit Authority logo tee, please.)

Speaking of the Transit Museum, its Holiday Nostalgia Rides are still happening this weekend on the  and  lines. The circa-1930s trains will be running every Saturday through December 30, so ride while the riding's good.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Woodlawn and Bedford Park Blvd-Lehman College
  •  trains are running in two sections
  •  trains aren't running in most of Queens
  • Downtown  trains are running on the  line from midtown to Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St
  • Manhattan-bound  trains and overnight  local trains are running on the  line from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Canal St
  •  trains are rerouted to Far Rockaway-Mott Av

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling. We’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.

And don't forget to sign up for the MTA Weekender, a newsletter sent every Friday. You'll get these service changes directly in your inbox, with more than enough time to plan your weekend travel. Subscribe here.
