Subway and rail service changes: February 23-26, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! Congratulations on making it to the last weekend in February. (Do you have your Leap Day party plans in place yet?) March, and spring, are right around the corner!

If you're traveling to JFK Airport this weekend, note that ​ trains aren't stopping at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport. Consider taking the LIRR to Jamaica; subway riders will be accommodated at no extra cost. You can also take the ​​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the ​​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.

And a note if you're transferring between  and  trains at 14 St: The passageway between these stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green.
  •  ​trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke.
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and are running on the ​ between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  Shuttle trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains aren't running between Brighton Beach and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service between Harlem-148 St and 135 St, take free shuttle buses, the M7, or the M102.
  • For service between 135 St and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take the .
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Crown Heights-Utica Av, take the , which is making  stops between these stations.
  • For service between Crown Heights-Utica Av and New Lots Av:
    • From 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, take free shuttle buses, which are making  stops between these stations.
    • Until 3:30 a.m. Saturday and after 10 p.m. Sunday, take the , which is making  stops between these stations.

 trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green in either direction all day Saturday and Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .
  • For service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, take the .
  •  trains are running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.

 trains, Queens

​ trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, making all ​ stops.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Queens and Manhattan for no additional cost at Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
    • If you're heading to JFK Airport, consider taking the LIRR. You can also take the ​​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the ​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running between World Trade Center and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke and on the  to Jamaica-179 St.
    • Jamaica-bound ​​ trains aren't stopping at Briarwood or Sutphin Blvd. For service to/from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Until 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and  trains aren't running between Brighton Beach and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction. This is because of signal modernization and track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running on two routes:
    • Between Kings Hwy  and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, making all  stops.
    • Between Brighton Beach and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, making all  stops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.
  •  trains are running between 96 St and Brighton Beach.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains are running on the  between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech in both directions from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance. 

  • Free shuttle buses are running between W 4 St-Washington Sq and East Broadway, making  stops.
  • For service to York St, use the nearby High St  station.

 Shuttle, Manhattan and Queens

The  Shuttle train isn't running between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Av/63 St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Queens Plaza and Roosevelt Island, stopping at Queensboro Plaza and 21 St-Queensbridge.
    • Take these shuttle buses for service to/from 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island.
    • Note: Q94 and Q95 shuttle buses aren't running.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/63 St, take the . Or, use nearby Lexington Av/59 St  during the day and evening.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from 8 Av, 6 Av, or 14 St-Union Sq, take free L92 shuttle buses or the M14.
    • When exiting the subway at these stations, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rocakway Pkwy.

Other subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Jackson Av from 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Wakefield-bound train.
  •  trains are running approximately every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. while trains run on a single track at 3 Av-149 St.

 trains, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan

Between 12:01 a.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday,  trains are running in two sections because of track maintenance:

  • Between Woodlawn and 125 St, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Manhattan-bound trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse. For service to/from this station, take a Woodlawn-bound train.
  • Between 125 St and Crown Heights-Utica Av or New Lots Av.
  • Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  trains are running on the express track from Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall to 14 St-Union Sq from 6:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

 trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Mets-Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Bay Ridge-bound  and Coney Island-bound local  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St.
  • Coney Island-bound local  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St.

This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Canarsie-bound ​ trains aren't stopping at Morgan Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are running on the express track from 57 St-7 Av to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 10 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway Branch

Far Rockaway Branch trains are running to Grand Central from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track switch replacement work.

  • For service to/from Penn Station, transfer at Jamaica.
