Subway and rail service changes: July 12-15, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

It's Friday, and we're hot. You're hot. It's hot! A hellscape, even!

If you aren't planning on staying inside in front of a fan this weekend, there's plenty to do, from Bastille Day celebrations to beaches. As always, we're going your way to weekend fun. 

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 137 St-City College.
  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  • ​ trains are running on the ​ between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and 2 Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  Franklin Av Shuttle isn't running to/from Franklin Av.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 137 St-City College in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along four routes:
    • On Broadway between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 215 St, connecting with the  at Inwood-207 St.
    • On St Nicholas Av between 191 St and 168 St, making all  stops. Free transfers to the M3 are available.
    • On Broadway between 168 St and 137 St-City College, making all  stops.
    • Overnight only, on Dyckman St between the  and  stations. During the day and evening, take the M100 instead.
    • When exiting the subway at 168 St or 137 St-City College, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from 207 St, transfer to/from the Bx12 bus at Inwood-207 St .
  • For service to/from stations in Washington Heights, use nearby  stations.
    • During this time,  trains are making local stops in both directions between 168 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle.
  • Stairways at 137 St-City College have been temporarily narrowed while we work on making this station accessible. More people will enter and exit this station during this service change. Expect some crowding and follow the instructions of MTA personnel.
  •  trains are running between 137 St-City College and South Ferry, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse in either direction Saturday and Sunday because of track replacement.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse and on the  to/from Burnside Av, every 20 minutes. Burnside Av-bound trains aren't stopping between 167 St and Burnside Av.
    • Between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, all weekend. 
  • Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse.
    • For service to/from 138 St-Grand Concourse, take a Dyre Av-bound train.
  • At 149 St-Grand Concourse, all  trains are stopping at the uptown  platform.
  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from E 180 St to 149 St-Grand Concourse from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains are running on the  between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and 2 Av in both directions from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
  • For service to/from 50 St, 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, 23 St, and 14 St, take  trains or use nearby  stops along 6 Av.
  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St (World Trade Center), take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and 5 Av/53 St and on the  between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and 2 Av.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs through Sunday, August 11 because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B98 shuttle buses are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, making all  stops.
    • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Court Sq , Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St , or Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  trains are making local stops between Myrtle Av and Marcy Av.
    • Use OMNY or MetroCard for a free out-of-system transfer between Broadway and Hewes St  or Lorimer St .
  • Subway alternatives between Brooklyn and Queens via Manhattan may be faster than the shuttle bus. Consider the  and/or  trains.
  •  trains are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av, every 8 minutes during rush hour and every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

 Franklin Av Shuttle, Brooklyn

 Franklin Av Shuttle trains aren't running to/from Franklin Av through Friday, August 9 because of the St. Marks Bridge replacement.

  • For service to/from Franklin Av, free B101 shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av and Park Place.
    • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Franklin Av  or Park Place.
  •  Franklin Av Shuttle trains are running between Park Place and Prospect Park.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and  local trains aren't stopping at 86 St and 79 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from 138 St-Grand Concourse, take a Woodlawn-bound train.
  • During this time, all  trains will board from the uptown platform at 149 St-Grand Concourse.

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Mosholu Pkwy and Bedford Park Blvd-Lehman College from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Woodlawn-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are making express stops from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Hunts Point Av to 3 Av-138 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. 

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at 182-183 Sts from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from 182-183 Sts, take a Norwood-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches

Trains aren't stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale in either direction from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Buses are running hourly between Jamaica and Valley Stream, stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale.
  • Long Beach Branch trains are running on revised schedules.

Port Jefferson Branch

Trains aren't running between Hicksville and Port Jefferson in either direction from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Monday because of switch replacement and bridge repair work.

  • Buses are replacing trains between Hicksville and Port Jefferson.
  • To avoid busing, consider using stations on the Ronkonkoma Branch.
  • Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma Branch trains are running on revised schedules.
