Subway and rail service changes: March 1-4, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, and happy March! We've turned the calendar page to a new month, one that brings some exciting events. (St. Patrick's Day! Spring Equinox! Daylight Saving Time! March Madness! International Rescue Cat Day!) 

This weekend, changes to the  remain in place, so a gentle reminder for JFK Airport-bound customers: Try the LIRR to Jamaica (at no extra cost), the ​​​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport, or the ​​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport. 

And for our 14 St customers: The passageway between the  ​​ and ​ stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between 14 St and South Ferry.
  •  trains aren't running between Woodlawn and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  •  trains aren't running between Inwood-207 St and 168 St.
  •  trains aren't running between 168 St and 145 St.
  •  trains aren't running between W 4 St-Washington Sq and and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and are rerouted in Midtown Manhattan.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke.
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  • Manhattan-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 36 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park and are running on the  between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 14 St and South Ferry in either direction from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • During the day and evening,  trains are running on the express track between 34 St-Penn Station and 14 St.
  • For local service between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St, take  trains, which are running local between these stations.
    • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.
  • For service between Chambers St and South Ferry, use nearby  or  stations.
  •  trains are running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 14 St, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between Woodlawn and 161 St-Yankee Stadium from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Woodlawn and Bedford Park Blvd , stopping at Mosholu Pkwy and Bedford Pk Blvd-Lehman College.
  • For service between Bedford Pk Blvd-Lehman College and 161 St-Yankee Stadium, use nearby  stations along Grand Concourse.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  •  trains are running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Brooklyn.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between Inwood-207 St and 168 St and  trains aren't running between 168 St and 145 St between 9:45 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Along Broadway between Inwood-207 St and 168 St, making all  stops.
    • Until 3:30 a.m. Sunday, along Fort Washington Av between 190 St and 168 St, making all  stops. After 3:30 a.m. Sunday, take the Broadway shuttle bus instead.
  • For local service between 168 St and 145 St, take the , which is running local between these stations.
  •  trains are running between 168 St and Queens.
  •  trains are running between 145 St and Euclid Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between W 4 St-Washington Sq and and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction and are rerouted in Midtown Manhattan. This is because of track maintenance.

  • Downtown  trains are running from Norwood-205 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle, on the  to W 4 St-Washington Sq, and on the  to 2 Av.
    • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
    • For service between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and W 4 St-Washington Sq, take the .
  • Uptown  trains are running on the  from 2 Av to 34 St-Herald Sq, where they resume regular service to Norwood-205 St.
  • Free shuttle buses are running between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Grand St, stopping at Broadway-Lafayette St.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take the , which is running on the  between these stations.
    • Or, for Manhattan-bound service between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St, take the .

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the  from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 36 St from 11:45 pm. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Coney Island-bound  train.

 trains, Queens

​ trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, making all ​ stops.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Queens and Manhattan for no additional cost at Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
    • If you're heading to JFK Airport, consider taking the LIRR. You can also take the ​​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the ​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running between World Trade Center and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke and on the  to Jamaica-179 St.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from 8 Av, 6 Av, or 14 St-Union Sq, take free L92 shuttle buses or the M14.
    • When exiting the subway at these stations, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rocakway Pkwy.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, stopping at 7 Av.
  •  trains are running in two sections, every 12 minutes during the day and evening:
    • Between 96 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, and on the  to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • Between Prospect Park and Coney Island.
  • During the day and evening,  trains aren't stopping at DeKalb Av in either direction. For service to/from this station, take the .

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are running on the express track from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • Note:  trains are running every 20 minutes during the day and evening while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't making stops between Pelham Bay Park and Parkchester from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains are running on the express track from Hunts Point Av to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening, the last stop for every other Pelham Bay Park-bound train is 3 Av-138 St. 
    • Transfer at 3 Av-138 St to continue your trip.
    • Trains are running every 8 minutes in Manhattan and every 16 minutes in the Bronx.

 trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Mets-Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Port Washington Branch

Buses are replacing trains between Great Neck and Port Washington in both directions from 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 12:45 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • Buses will not stop at Plandome because of low bridges in the area. Please use the bus stop at nearby Manhasset station instead.
