Subway and rail service changes: May 5-8

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated May 5, 2023 9:00 a.m.

We've got good news, riders!

Pretty soon, your subway service will be getting a boost! Beginning in July, expect more frequent   and   train service on weekends. In August, this will be followed by an increase to weekend   and   service, along with mid-day weekday improvements to   and   train frequencies. These service increases are targeted to lines where we've seen the highest increases in ridership since the pandemic and are thanks to funding from the NY State budget.

Rolling along, we've got an important note for our Sunday cyclists 🚴‍♂️: If you're taking your bike on public transit to or from the 5 Boro Bike Tour, these are the best stations to use: Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall  , Bowling Green   (Bowling Green Park entrance only), Chambers St  , Chambers St  , World Trade Center  , Cortlandt St  , South Ferry  , and Broad St

Several bus routes may experience detours during the bike tour. Check here for alerts before you go. As a reminder, bicycles are not permitted on buses, unless they are foldable, and must be fully collapsed.

Here's what's happening this weekend:

  •  trains aren't stopping at Van Cortlandt Park-242 St.
  •  trains are rerouted between Manhattan and Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av
  •  trains aren't running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer
  •  trains aren't running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza
  • Rockaway Park   trains aren't running at all

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling — we’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.

And don't forget to sign up for the MTA Weekender, a newsletter sent every Friday. You'll get these service changes directly in your inbox, with more than enough time to plan your weekend travel. Subscribe here
