Subway and rail service changes: Presidents Day Weekend

There are service changes on the subway and Long Island Rail Road this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Holiday weekend, incoming!

We've got an especially important heads up for train riders: Starting tonight, and lasting 24/7 through 5 a.m. Monday, February 27, trains will be rerouted while we perform switch and signal work along the 8 Av line. Learn more about these service changes.

And a note for Presidents Day: On Monday, subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule. The Long Island Rail Road will run on a weekend schedule, and Metro-North will run on a Saturday schedule. See a map of the holiday weekend changes.

Here's what else is going on over the long weekend:

  •  trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St
  •  trains aren't running at all
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse
  •  trains aren't stopping at Flushing-Main St
  •  trains are rerouted in Manhattan
  •  trains are running every 15 minutes
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island, and are running on the   line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 5 Av/53 St
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains are running on the   line between Manhattan and Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Grasmere and Tottenville

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan, Bronx, and Brooklyn

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday,   trains are not running between 135 St and 3 Av-149 St;   trains are not running at all; and   trains are not running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E 180 St. This is because of accessibility work.

Free shuttle buses are running between 135 St and 3 Av-149 St, and are stopping at 145 St . Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and 135 St, then via the   to/from Harlem-148 St, bypassing 145 St in both directions.
    • Between 3 Av-149 St and Wakefield-241 St.
  • For service to/from   stations, take the   or   train.
  •  trains are extended to New Lots Av all weekend.
  •  trains are running between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and between E 180 St and Dyre Av.

 trains, Queens

Trains aren't stopping at Flushing-Main St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday because of track maintenance. 

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Flushing-Main St and Mets-Willets Pt. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Mets-Willets Pt and 34 St-Hudson Yards.

34 St-bound trains are running on the express track from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday because of track maintenance. 

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Mets-Willets Pt-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, February 27, World Trade Center-bound   trains are running on the   line from 5 Av/53 St to W 4 St-Wash Sq. This is because of switch replacement and signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the   to/from 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr.
  • For service to/from 50 St and 23 St, take an uptown train.
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, and 14 St, take the   or   train.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, February 27, downtown   trains are running on the express track from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St. This is because of switch replacement and signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, all boroughs

On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday,   trains are running every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is because trains are sharing the local track in Brooklyn while we perform electrical work.

  • You may experience a longer wait. Use our MYmta app to see arrival times and plan your trip.

 trains are not running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • trains are running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Kings Hwy.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday,   and   trains will not stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St, and Jay St-MetroTech because of signal improvement work.

  •  trains are running on the   line between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions.
  • During the day,   trains are running on the   line between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions.
  • Overnight,   trains are only running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St in Brooklyn, the last stop. Take   or   trains for service to/from stations between 59 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  • For service to/from Jay St-MetroTech and Court St, use the nearby Borough Hall   station.
  • For service to/from City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, and Whitehall St, use nearby   stations.
  • Reminder: Board   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

 trains, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens

Trains are not running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.
  • For direct service to/from W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the   train.

Trains are running on the   line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 5 Av/53 St in both directions from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of station work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Roosevelt Island and Queens Plaza  , stopping at 21 St-Queensbridge and Queensboro Plaza . Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/63 St, take the   to/from 34 St-Herald Sq.
  • For service to/from 57 St, use the nearby 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr station.

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Grasmere and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Tuesday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Grasmere and Tottenville. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between St. George and Grasmere.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound trains are running on the express track from Parkchester to Pelham Bay Park from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

 trains, Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Manhattan-bound trains from Parsons Blvd   / Jamaica-Van Wyck   are running on the express track to Kew Gardens-Union Tpke because of electrical work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queens-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Port Washington Branch

Trains are not running between Great Neck and Port Washington in either direction from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • Buses are running every hour between Great Neck and Port Washington, making all stops except Plandome.
  • As an alternative to Plandome, use the nearby Manhasset bus stop.
  • Trains are running between Penn Station and Great Neck on a regular weekend schedule.
  • The last trains to run on Friday night are the 11:11 p.m. from Penn Station and the 11:38 p.m. from Port Washington.
  • Service resumes on Sunday morning with the 12:17 a.m. from Penn Station and the 2:10 a.m. from Port Washington.

Ronkonkoma Branch

Trains are not running between Ronkonkoma and Greenport in either direction on Saturday and Sunday because of railroad crossing replacement work near Riverhead.

  • Buses are running between Ronkonkoma and Greenport.
  • Allow up to 30 minutes of additional travel time.
