Subway and rail service changes: September 15-18

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Welcome to the weekend!

Taking off from JFK Airport? Your best bet will be taking the   train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK or LIRR to Jamaica, as   and   trains won't be running in most of Queens.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Dyckman St and 137 St-City College
  •  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport
  • Downtown   trains are running express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  • Downtown   trains are running on the   line between 5 Av/53 St and 2 Av, and uptown between 2 Av and W 4 St-Wash Sq
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St
  • Uptown  trains are running on the  line between Brooklyn and Manhattan
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

 trains are not running between Dyckman St and 137 St-City College in either direction from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    •  Between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and Dyckman St, bypassing 207 St southbound.
    • Between 137 St-City College and South Ferry. 
  • Free shuttle buses are running along three routes:
    • On St. Nicholas Av between 191 St and 168 St.
    • On Broadway between 168 St and 137 St-City College.
    • Between Dyckman St   and Dyckman St  .
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • Consider using nearby   stations as an alternative for service between 207 St and 137 St-City College. Transfer to/from   trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle.

 trains, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens

 trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport/Lefferts Blvd from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Local between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
    • Express between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport. (Euclid Av-bound buses stop at Aqueduct-North Conduit Av.)
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway.
  • Travel tip: For direct service to/from JFK Airport, take the   train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, downtown   trains are running on the express track from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • Reminder: Board downtown   trains on the express platform at 34 St-Penn Station.

 trains, Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains are not running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St in either direction because of structural maintenance work.

  •  trains are running between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, take the  .
  • Norwood-205 St is connected by a free D90 shuttle bus to Mosholu Pkwy  . Transfer between the   and the   at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, World Trade Center-bound   trains are running on the   line from 5 Av/53 St to 2 Av, the last stop. Queens-bound  trains are running on the  line from 2 Av to W 4 St-Wash Sq. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the   to/from 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr.
  • For service to/from 50 St and 23 St, take an uptown train.
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, 14 St, Spring St, Canal St, and World Trade Center (Chambers St) take the   or   train.
  • Note: There is no downtown service at 50 St, 23 St, and Spring St.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains are not running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Free J90 shuttle buses are running between Crescent St and 121 St, connecting to Jamaica-Van Wyck  . Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, take the  .
  •  trains are running between Broad St and Crescent St.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains are not running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • M14A/D-SBS and free L92 shuttle buses provide alternate service at 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq. Transfer between the M14/L92 and   at 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

 trains, all boroughs

 trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of communications work.

  •  trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.
  • For service between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St, take the   train.
  • Reminder: On weekends,   trains already don't run on Sixth Av or Queens Blvd. Take   trains instead.
  • Reminder: When   train service resumes on Monday, trains will only run between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and 57 St in Manhattan through early 2024 because of track replacement work.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, making a stop at 7 Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from 14 St-Union Sq, Canal St, and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take   trains.
  • For direct service between Midtown and Brooklyn, take   trains. Transfer to/from   trains at 34 St-Herald Sq and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 96 St and 34 St-Herald Sq.
    • Between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Uptown   trains are running on the   line from Atlantic Av-Barcays Ctr to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, take a downtown train, or use nearby   stations.
  • Overnight,   trains are only running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St, the last stop. Take   trains to continue your trip.
  • Reminder: Board uptown   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx

From 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, every other uptown  train will end at 3 Av-138 St because of station improvement work.

  • To continue your trip, transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound   train at 3 Av-138 St, or wait for a Pelham Bay Park-bound train at your origin station.

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

 trains, Queens

34 St-bound   trains are running on the express track from Mets-Willets Pt to 74 St-Broadway from 3:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.
  • Reminder: The Manhattan-bound platforms at 111 St and 82 St-Jackson Hts are closed 24/7 through Fall 2023 for rehabilitation work.

 trains, Brooklyn

Brooklyn-bound   trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to:

  • 36 St 
  • 59 St 

from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical work. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train. Overnight,   trains are only running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St, the last stop. Take  trains to continue your trip.

 trains, Queens

Jamaica-bound   trains are not stopping at 75 Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from 75 Av, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

All Branches

Special schedules are in effect on most branches all weekend while we install track and switches at Floral Park and Hicksville.

  • Huntington and Ronkonkoma trains will run every hour all weekend. Trains will only run to/from Penn Station during daytime hours. Transfer at Jamaica for service to Grand Central.
  • Service between Huntington and Port Jefferson will be reduced to every two hours.
  • Many trains on other branches will run on adjusted schedules and transfer times may change. Plan your trip with the TrainTime app.
  • If you are going to the Andre Rieu concert on Sunday, we will be running shuttle trains between Jamaica and Belmont Park as an alternative for reduced service at Elmont-UBS Arena.
  • Eastbound Huntington and Ronkonkoma trains will skip Elmont-UBS Arena. Use a Hempstead Branch train instead.
