Subway and rail service changes: September 27-30, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, and welcome to the last weekend in September! There's a lot to do around the city this weekend, like the Atlantic Antic, the Brooklyn Book Festival, and the Global Citizen Festival—or maybe you're heading out of town for some early fall fun. No matter where you're headed this weekend, public transit can take you there.

If you're traveling to JFK Airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport . For service from Manhattan and Brooklyn to JFK, take  trains to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport 

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport .
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and Lorimer St.
  • Astoria-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from DeKalb Av to Canal St and Coney Island-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from 36 St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport  from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport , take free shuttle buses, which are running along two routes:
    • Local, making all  stops between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport .
    • Express between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport , stopping at Aqueduct-North Conduit Av in the Euclid Av-bound direction.
  • For service to JFK Airport, take  trains to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport 
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport  and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and Lorimer St in either direction from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service within Brooklyn and Manhattan, free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • L92 in Manhattan, making all  stops between 8 Av and 1 Av and connecting with  trains at Delancey St-Essex St. M14A-SBS buses also make these stops.
    • In Brooklyn, between Bedford Av , Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St , Broadway , Hewes St , and Marcy Av .
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, transfer to/from  trains at Broadway Junction or the  at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
    • ​ trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and 96 St , on the ​​ between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and Lexington Av/63 St and on the ​​ between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St. Trains are running every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
  • ​ trains are running between Lorimer St and Canarsie-Rockaway Av.

 trains, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens

Astoria-bound  trains are running on the  from DeKalb Av to Canal St all day Saturday and Sunday because of track replacement.

  • At Canal St, uptown  trains are stopping at the  platform.

Coney Island-bound  trains are running on the  from 36 St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service between 36 St and 59 St, take the  or a Manhattan-bound .
  • For service between 59 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take a Manhattan-bound .

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

​ trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 96 St and Lexington Av/63 St, take the , which is running on the ​ between these stations.
  • For service between 57 St-7 Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take ​​ trains.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, take free Q90 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations, stopping at 7 Av.
  • For service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, consider  trains.
  •  trains are running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains aren't stopping from 72 St to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

Uptown  trains aren't stopping at 145 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station, take a downtown train. Or, consider nearby 145 St .

 trains, the Bronx

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, Manhattan-bound  trains are making express stops from Gun Hill Rd to 3 Av-149 St and Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from E 180 St to 3 Av-149 St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Gun Hill Rd and E 180 St, take a Wakefield-bound  train.
  • For service between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St, take a Wakefield-bound  or Dyre Av-bound  train.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 20 minutes and  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share a track in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains aren't stopping from Hunts Point Av to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains will board from the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • At Mets-Willets Point, all trains will board from the Flushing-bound platform.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  local trains are making express stops from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, skipping DeKalb Av, during overnight hours from Friday night to Monday morning. This is because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take the .

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Coney Island-bound  trains are making express stops from Smith-9 Sts to Kings Hwy and Church Av-bound  trains are making express stops from Smith-9 Sts to Church Av. This is because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from 4 Av-9 St, take a Manhattan-bound  or Court Sq-bound  train or the .
  • For service to/from 15 St-Prospect Park or Fort Hamilton Pkwy, take a Manhattan-bound ​ or Court Sq-bound ​ train.
  • For local service between Church Av and Kings Hwy, take a Manhattan-bound  train.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead.
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
