The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced service details for the upcoming July 4 holiday. For Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4, New York City Transit (NYCT) will run on a weekend/Saturday schedule and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North will run on a Sunday schedule. As a reminder, the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus, with connections to the LIRR from Woodside station and the and subway lines from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av station, is fare free to and from LaGuardia Airport until further notice.
Service details for each agency are below:
Subways
On Tuesday, July 4, NYCT subways will operate on a Saturday schedule.
- Full length trains will operate on the Rockaway Park Shuttle to accommodate increased ridership to the beach
- Between approximately 9:00 a.m and 9:00 p.m. Rockaway Park Shuttle trains will extend service to operate between Rockaway Blvd and Rockaway Park, stopping at Aqueduct, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Howard Beach – JFK Airport stations
- To accommodate increased ridership to the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display, service will be bolstered on the and the 42 St Shuttle in the evening.
There are planned subway service changes from Friday, June 30 through Monday, July 3 at 5:00 a.m. to accommodate critical track maintenance and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) work. Customers are advised to check new.mta.info or the MYmta app for real-time service updates and alternatives to help plan their trip. Highlights listed below:
trains will operate between South Ferry and 137 St–City College. Customers are advised to utilize free shuttle buses and trains for service north of 137 St.
trains will not operate between Manhattan and Queens. trains will run between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza and between Times Sq–42 St and Coney Island–Stillwell Av. Customers are advised to transfer to the at Queensboro Plaza or Times Sq-42 St for service between Queens and Manhattan.
No train service in Southeast Queens between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway–Mott Av. trains will replace Far Rockaway service between Broad Channel and Rockaway Park–Beach 116 St. Customers can transfer at Beach 90 St for free shuttle bus service between Far Rockaway–Mott Av and Beach 67 St. LIRR will cross-honor NYCT customers at stations between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Jamaica for service to/from Far Rockaway.
trains will not operate between Crescent Street and Jamaica Center. Shuttle buses will provide service between Crescent Street and Jamaica-Van Wyck where customers can transfer to the .
Buses
On Tuesday, July 4, New York City buses will run on a Saturday schedule.
Customers should expect delays on all routes near the East River on the evening of July 4 due to the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display.
Staten Island Railway
On Tuesday, July 4, Staten Island Railway will run on a Saturday schedule.
Long Island Rail Road
Thursday, June 29
The 5:13 p.m. train from Penn Station to Montauk will operate.
Friday, June 30
The LIRR will operate a regular summer Friday schedule including operation of the Cannonball.
In addition, there will be two early release trains:
- The 2:55 p.m. train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma
- The 2:38 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon
There will be one additional schedule adjustment on the Ronkonkoma Branch, the 4:27 p.m. westbound train from Ronkonkoma will operate thirteen minutes earlier at 4:14 p.m.
Saturday, July 1
The LIRR will operate on a regular Saturday schedule.
The 11:38 a.m. train from Montauk to Jamaica will operate on an adjusted schedule, and will depart Montauk, Amagansett, East Hampton, and Bridgehampton 5 minutes earlier.
Sunday, July 2
The LIRR will operate on a regular Sunday schedule.
- The 12:13 p.m. train from Jamaica Station will not make a stop at Hampton Bays; alternate bus service will be provided.
Monday, July 3
The LIRR will operate on a summer Friday schedule including operation of the Cannonball.
Extra eastbound Port Washington Branch trains depart Grand Central at 3:07 p.m. and Penn Station at 3:26 p.m., making all stops to Great Neck.
Extra Babylon Branch trains depart Manhattan between 2:04 p.m. and 2:54 p.m.
- 2:04 p.m. from Grand Central stops at Jamaica and Lynbrook, then makes all stops to Babylon.
- 2:38 p.m. from Penn Station stops at Jamaica and Rockville Centre, then makes all stops to Babylon.
- 2:54 p.m. from Grand Central stops at Jamaica and Lynbrook, then makes all stops to Babylon.
- The 7:18 a.m. train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Avenue will operate.
Tuesday, July 4
The LIRR will operate on a summer Sunday schedule.
- The 12:13 p.m. train from Jamaica Station will not make a stop at Hampton Bays; alternate bus service will be provided.
Wednesday, July 5
The LIRR will operate on a regular Monday schedule.
The 7:18 a.m. train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Avenue will operate.
Metro-North Railroad
Friday, June 30
Metro-North will operate a normal Friday service on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines.
West of Hudson, the Port Jervis Line will operate as follows:
- The 2:41 p.m. train from Hoboken to Middletown, NY, with a connection train from New York Penn Station departing at 2:34 p.m., is extended to Otisville and Port Jervis, arriving at 4:56 p.m.
- The 6:14 p.m. train from Hoboken to Port Jervis, with a connection train from New York Penn Station departing at 6:04 p.m., will not operate on Friday, June 30.
- On the Pascack Valley line, customers who ride the 5:32 p.m. express train from Hoboken to Spring Valley should note that the connection train from New York Penn Station departs 5 minutes earlier, at 5:20 p.m.
On Saturday, July 1, Metro-North will operate on a normal Saturday schedule.
On Sunday, July 2, Metro-North will operate on a normal Sunday schedule.
On Monday, July 3, Metro-North will operate on a normal Monday schedule.
The New York Yankees are at home for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Baltimore Orioles, with a fireworks display after the game. Metro-North Yankee Clipper trains, the one-seat ride express trains to and from the stadium, will wait at Yankees-E. 153rd Street station until after the end of the fireworks allowing fans to enjoy the show.
On Tuesday, July 4, Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule with two extra trains on the New Haven line and one extra train on the Port Jervis line.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Routine maintenance and construction at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings will cease at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.
Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30 through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5.
Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel.
