MTA Announces Planned Service Changes on the J and M Lines Beginning Memorial Day Weekend

Four Weekends Beginning May 27, Free Shuttle Buses Will Replace  Train Service Between Broadway Junction and Marcy Avenue

Fourteen Consecutive Weekends Beginning May 27, Free Shuttle Buses Will Replace  Service Between Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue (Queens) to Either Myrtle Av/Broadway, Flushing Av/Broadway or Marcy Avenue

 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is advising customers of service changes on the and  lines beginning Memorial Day weekend. The service changes will accommodate critical switch replacements that are essential for operating service along the   and   lines in a safe and efficient manner. The switches have reached the end of their useful lives. In addition to the free shuttle bus service, the and  trains, which are the best alternatives for many customers, will operate between Broadway Junction and Manhattan during these service outages.

  Train Service Changes

For four weekends beginning on May 27, shuttle buses will replace normal   train service between Broadway Junction and Marcy Avenue during the following times:

  • 11:30 Friday May 27 until 10:00 p.m. Monday, May 30 (holiday weekend)
  • 11:30 Friday until 10:00 p.m. Sunday during weekends of June 3-5; June 17-19; June 24-26
  •  train service will operate in two sections: between Jamaica Center and Broadway Junction and between Marcy Avenue and Broad Street

  Train Service Changes

For fourteen consecutive weekends beginning on May 27, shuttle buses will replace normal   service between Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue (Queens) and either Myrtle Av/Broadway, Flushing Av/Broadway or Marcy Avenue during the following times:

  • 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 27 until 10:00 p.m. Monday, May 30 (holiday weekend) (Free Shuttle Bus Metropolitan Av – Marcy Av)
  • 11:30 p.m. Friday until 10:00 p.m. Sunday during weekends of June 3-5; June 10-12, June 17-19; June 24-26 (Free Shuttle Bus Metropolitan Av – Marcy Av except June 10-12 when bus is Metropolitan Av – Myrtle Av)
  • 9:45 p.m. Friday July 1, until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 (holiday weekend) (Free Shuttle Bus Metropolitan Av – Flushing Av)
  • 9:45 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday weekends from July 8 through August 29 (Free Shuttle Bus Metropolitan Av – Flushing Av)

The free shuttle bus between Metropolitan Av and Marcy Av will run only the 4 weekends while the   is also out, May 27-30, June 3-5; June 17-19; June 24-26. On June 10-12, the bus will operate between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. All remaining weekends, the bus will operate Metropolitan Av to Flushing Av.

MYmta app – Customers who use the comprehensive MYmta smartphone app will see real-time travel information for all MTA services in one place.

MTA.info – The “Service Status” box at new.MTA.info is always the definitive source for the latest status for each line in real time. The “Planned Service Changes” and “TripPlanner” sections of new.MTA.info allow customers to plan their alternative routes in advance.

Live Subway Map – The Live Subway Map shows the real-time position of trains, illustrates planned service changes at any given time, highlights accessible stations, and much more.

Email and text message service updates – Customers are urged to sign up to receive alerts, tailored by specific branch and time of day, by visiting www.MyMTAAlerts.com.

Twitter – Twitter users can follow @MTA, @NYCTSubway, and @NYCTBus, to receive dynamic service updates and customer service support.

WhatsApp - NYC Transit also provides customer service via WhatsApp, in order to reach as many customers as possible particularly non-native English speakers. NYCT uses Google Translate to provide support to customers in their native language.

These communication channels can be accessed while at home or on the go. For customers who are located at stations, the MTA will post the latest service updates on digital signs at station platforms and will make audio announcements over public address systems, and on-board announcements made by train crews.

For customers calling from Connecticut, the number is 877-690-5114. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can use their preferred service provider for the free 711 relay to reach the MTA at 511.
