MTA Announces Signal Upgrades, Critical Track Repairs on F and G Lines

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced a series of subway service changes for November and December on the and lines in Brooklyn. The changes are a part of the Authority’s broader modernization efforts, including the Culver Line Signal Modernization Project, which will improve the reliability and resiliency of subway service in the borough. The MTA will also use the November and December track outages to make critical repairs to upgrade signaling and track interlocking systems, replacing key track switches south of the Bergen St station and south of the Kings Highway station. Once completed, this work will ultimately provide the MTA with the ability to more seamlessly reroute service at times when unplanned disruptions arise or when planned service changes for construction of maintenance are in effect. 

The service impacts begin to take effect the evening of Monday, Nov. 15, and will conclude in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24. The full scope of the temporary service change is detailed below. 

Weekdays – Two Weeks, Dec. 6 to Dec. 17

• No train rush hour Brooklyn express service. All trains will make local stops between 4th Av and Church Av.
• Some rush hour trains will skip Bergen St, Carroll St, and Smith-9th streets. If you are going to one of these stations, transfer at Jay St or 4th Av for the following train.
• train service will operate normally.   

Nights and Weekends

• 9:30pm to 5:00am weeknights, Nov. 15 to Dec. 23 except the night before and the night of Thanksgiving (Nov. 24 and Nov. 25).
• Weekends of Dec. 4, Dec. 11, and Dec. 18; 9:30pm Friday to 5:00am Monday.
• No and subway service at Bergen St, Carroll St, and Smith-9th streets in both directions. A free shuttle bus will connect these stations with Jay St and 4th Av where trains are available.
• All trains will skip Bergen St, Carroll St, and Smith-9th streets in both directions.
• trains will not run between Hoyt-Schermerhorn streets and Church Av. For the train, take the train (or shuttle bus if coming from the 3 stations above) to Jay St, then transfer to the or trains to Hoyt-Schermerhorn streets. At Hoyt-Schermerhorn, customers will be able to take a shuttle train running every 20 minutes for service to Bedford-Nostrand avenues. Regular train service operates between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand avenues. 

During the weekends in question, there will be no train service south of Church Av for Culver Line Signal Modernization work.
