The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today provided details on service highlights for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend across New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, Access-A-Ride, and Bridges and Tunnels. The railroads are adding a few early-getaway trains to help New Yorkers get an early start on the three-day weekend. Service details for each agency are below: Long Island Rail Road The LIRR will operate two early getaway trains on Friday, Sept. 1, to help customers get an early head start on the holiday weekend, one on the Ronkonkoma Branch and one on the Babylon Branch.
On Saturday, Sept. 2, the LIRR will operate on a normal Saturday schedule. On Sunday, Sept. 3 the LIRR will operate on a Saturday schedule. On Monday, Sept. 5, the LIRR will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule with Montauk Branch trains running on a Sunday schedule. To highlight:
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, the 7:18 a.m. train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Ave, which usually runs on summer Mondays, is instead scheduled to run on Tuesday for those returning to New York City after the long holiday weekend. To plan your trip, consult the TrainTime app or visit new.mta.info. Metro-North Railroad Metro-North will have service adjustments on both the East and West of Hudson Lines for the Labor Day weekend. East of Hudson Extra trains will operate on both Thursday and Friday on Metro-North’s three East of Hudson lines. Hudson Line On the Hudson Line, Metro-North Railroad will operate three early-getaway trains on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, to allow customers to get an early start on the holiday weekend.
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:30 p.m. and 6:11 p.m. trains to Poughkeepsie will not operate.
Harlem Line On the Harlem Line, Metro-North Railroad will operate two early-getaway trains:
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:27 p.m. train to Southeast will not operate. New Haven Line On the New Haven Line, there will be three early-getaway trains and one service change:
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:41 p.m. and 6:07 p.m. New Haven express trains will not operate. Metro-North's East of Hudson lines will operate a normal Saturday schedule on Saturday, Sept. 2, and a Sunday schedule on both Sunday, Sept. 3, and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. Normal weekday service resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 5. West of Hudson Pascack Valley Line On Friday, Sept. 1, customers who ride the 5:25 p.m. connecting train from New York Penn Station to Secaucus Junction to board the 5:43 p.m. Pascack Valley Line train to Spring Valley, arriving at 6:26 p.m., please note that the connecting train will depart New York Penn Station 5 minutes earlier, at 5:20 p.m. instead of at 5:25 p.m. Port Jervis Line Metro-North will operate a normal schedule on the Port Jervis Line on Friday, Sept. 1. On Monday, Sept. 4, an extra train departs Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m., making all stops through Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken, arriving at Hoboken at 6:24 p.m., with a connecting train at Secaucus Junction to New York Penn Station arriving New York at 6:33 p.m. To plan your trip, consult the TrainTime app or visit new.mta.info. MTA Bridges and Tunnels Routine maintenance and construction at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings will cease at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31. Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel. Customers are advised to check any of the MTA’s multiple communications channels listed below before traveling. New York City Transit Starting Wednesday, Aug.30 at 9:45 p.m., the line will be shut down for five consecutive days to accommodate switch replacement work. service will resume 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 5, only between Middle Village- Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Rockefeller Ctr. service between Forest Hills –71 Av and 47-50 Rockefeller Ctr remains suspended due to ongoing track replacement work in the 63rd St tunnel. As a reminder, trains running via the line in both directions between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 5 Av/53 St, resuming service at 47-50 Sts. Special shuttle runs every 20 minutes between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Av/63 St, stopping at Roosevelt Island. During the Labor Day Weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, the subway will run on a regular weekend schedule. On Labor Day, the subway will run on a Sunday schedule. That means there will be no service on the , and trains; no express or trains; and no express trains in Brooklyn. During the Labor Day Weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, New York City buses will run on a regular weekend schedule. On Labor Day, buses will run on a Sunday schedule.
