Transit Agencies and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Discuss Contracting Opportunities Available Throughout the Region

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today hosted a summit, connecting regional transportation agencies with certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE). Agencies discussed subcontracting opportunities available in excess of $100 billion through United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) funded projects in the region.
Representatives from approximately 150 DBEs were in attendance along with officials from the MTA, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NJ Transit, New York City Department of Transportation, New York State Department of Transportation, and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.
The summit builds on the MTA’s commitment to working with MWDBE businesses. During the most recent Federal Transit Administration (FTA) reporting year, the Authority awarded $973 million in contracts at 24% DBE participation. In that same time period, the MTA was responsible for $1.5 billion in payments to its pool of certified MWDBEs/SDVOBs, and out of the 97 State agencies and public authorities, the MTA is ranked number one in dollars paid to NYS-certified MWBEs.

Garner. “Having the ability to award contracts in an inclusive manner to a pool of businesses who have historically been shut out is true social justice and economic empowerment. We hope this summit leads to more success stories in the near future.”
