15 Public Events to Be Held, Between Friday, April 14 and Thursday, May 11

In-Person Events Follow 18 Virtual Workshops Held in Every Brooklyn Community District Between January and March, With Feedback From Hundreds of Customers

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today invited Brooklyn bus riders to share their feedback and provide input on the Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign Draft Plan at 15 in-person, public events this spring. The Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign team will host five outdoor outreach events, six additional pop-up events, and four pop-up events held in partnership with the MTA’s MetroCard Mobile Sales team, as the MTA continues to meet with customers and gather their input on the Draft Plan. Events will mostly be held outdoors and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Members of the public are encouraged to check the Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign webpage before an event for the most up to date information.

The input gathered at these events will supplement the comments provided by hundreds of New Yorkers who attended 18 virtual workshops held between January and March and will be used to inform the next report in the Redesign process, the Proposed Final Plan.

“These outreach events provide a great opportunity for customers to stop by in-person to learn about the Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign and provide comments,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “Hearing from Brooklyn bus riders directly is an integral piece in delivering a modernized bus network that will best serve the community with more reliable, frequent service with better connections to the rest of the transit system and key destinations.”

“The outreach process of any bus redesign project is a critical element to the success of a newly designed bus network,” said Senior Vice President of NYC Transit Buses Frank Annicaro. “It is a collaborative effort with one shared goal to improve bus service reliability and get New Yorkers where they want to go more quickly and efficiently.”

The Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign Draft Plan was released in December 2022 and was the first proposed overhaul of Brooklyn bus service in decades, creating a modern bus network to better meet the demands of Brooklyn residents and better suit current travel patterns of residential and business communities. The redesign seeks to expand all-day service to provide more travel opportunities so customers can catch more buses without needing to consult a schedule. It proposes route modifications to fill in service gaps in the bus network to expand the reach of accessible public transportation, improve crosstown connections, balance bus stop distances, and streamline circuitous routes. In total, the plan proposes 69 local routes and 19 express routes, for a total of 88 routes, an increase from the 62 local and 9 express routes that operate currently.

Outdoor Open Houses
The MTA will host five outdoor outreach events, with one in each part of the borough identified during the initial wave of outreach on the Draft Plan. These events will have an “open house” structure in which customers will be able to stop by at any point during the event to learn how the MTA is building a better bus network for Brooklyn and talk with the MTA team about their trips. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their feedback including any proposed changes to the Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign Draft Plan.

Language interpreters, including ASL, can be made available upon advance request no later than five business days before an event. Please email gcr@nyct.com to request accommodations and include “BkBNR accommodation request” in the subject.

All events will be held between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the following dates:
