Changes to Subway Service Between in Manhattan and Brooklyn for Two Weekends in May
Alternate Service and Free Shuttle Buses Will Be Provided

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced maintenance, cleaning, repair and replacement work will be performed along the Sixth Avenue line in Manhattan on weeknights beginning Monday, May 10, for two weeks through May 21.
While crews from MTA New York City Transit perform track maintenance, repair and cleaning in the corridor, MTA Construction & Development will use the platform and track access created during this time to advance elevator replacement work at 34 St - Herald Sq.
FASTRACK work typically includes:

Track – remove debris and repair or replace tie blocks and running rails.

Third Rail Operations – clean and remove debris from under and around the third rail.

Signals – perform general maintenance on signals and switches.

Infrastructure – repair or replace handrails, signs, and tunnel lighting. Clean track drains and repair water damage/leaks.

Electronic Maintenance – optimize performance of closed-circuit television monitors and cameras. Inspect and test public address system equipment.

Station Environment – perform high-intensity station cleaning and painting as well as perform elevator and escalator repair work. Clean vents and drains.
Beginning Monday, May 10 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and continuing on weeknights through Friday morning, May 21, the following service changes will be in effect:

& trains will not stop at 47-50 Sts – Rockefeller Center, 42 St-Bryant Park, 14 St, W 4 St-Washington Square, and Broadway-Lafayette St

trains also will not stop at 7 Av and Grand St

trains also will not stop at 2 Av, Delancey St, East Broadway and York St

& trains will “swap” routes in Brooklyn:

trains will run between Jamaica-179 St and Roosevelt Av, making all local stops in Queens after 10 p.m. to Manhattan and after midnight to Jamaica-179 St, and then:

via the to/from 57 St-7Av

via the express to/from Atlantic Av-Barclays Center

via the in Brooklyn between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center and Coney Island-Stillwell Av

trains will run normally between Norwood-205 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle and then:

via the to/from Jay St-MetroTech

via the in Brooklyn between Jay St-MetroTech and Coney Island-Stillwell Av

Three free shuttle buses will run:

between Roosevelt Island and Queens Plaza

between W 4 St and East Broadway

For stations without and/or train service the following alternatives will be in effect:

For 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island , take a shuttle bus and transfer at Queens Plaza to/from the or trains, or the train on the tracks

For Lexington Av/63 St , take the train

For 57 St F, 47-50 Sts , 42 St-Bryant Pk , use nearby stations along 7 Avenue for the train on the tracks

For 34 St-Herald Square , take the trains, or the train on the tracks

For 23 St use nearby station along Broadway

For 14 St , take the train to Union Square for the train on the tracks or take the train to 8 Av for the train on the tracks

For W 4 St , take the or trains, or the train on the tracks

For Broadway-Lafayette St , take the or local trains, or take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the or trains, or the train on the tracks

For 2 Av F, Delancey St/Essex St and East Broadway , take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the or trains, or the train on the tracks or take the shuttle bus and at Bleecker St/Broadway-Lafayette St transfer to/from the or local trains

For Grand St, take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the or trains, or the train on the tracks

For York St, use nearby High St station for the train on the tracks
Please note that for the week of May 10, the subway system will remain closed for disinfecting between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Starting May 17, the subway will be open 24 hours per day.
This service change affects one or more ADA accessible stations and these travel alternatives may not be fully accessible. Please contact 511 to plan your trip.
