The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that in collaboration with Kids Against Cancer, the Authority is spreading holiday cheer to children who need it most. The MTA transformed a New York City Transit (NYCT) bus, originating from the Yukon Bus Depot in Staten Island, into a mobile toy workshop titled ‘MTA’s Santa’s Express”. The bus featured a collection of dozens of toys that were received through a toy drive conducted since early November across the organization. The toys were loaded onto a NYCT bus to be delivered to children with medical conditions at two Staten Island hospitals.

In coordination with the non-profit Kids Against Cancer and the generosity and support of NYCT employees an MTA bus was taken out of service and solely dedicated to this special event leading up to the holiday season.

Santa’s Express was festively decorated with a North Pole theme including garlands, tinsel, ornaments, dolls, and giant candy canes. Santa’s elves along with volunteers then loaded the bus with Mr. Clause behind the wheel. Dozens of toys were delivered to various pediatric units at Staten Island University North in Ocean Breeze and Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton. The gifts were for children and their families who need to remain in the hospital for the holidays.

Santa’s Express will also make a special delivery of toys and gifts for children and their families at a breakfast to benefit Kids Against Cancer on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Applebee’s located at 115 Bricktown Way in Staten Island.
