NYC Transit Crews Responded to Heavy Rainfall During Evening Commute on Tuesday, July 25

Dozens of Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit frontline employees worked through the late afternoon into the early evening to remove a fallen tree and its numerous sizable branches from the northbound tracks following a severe storm that brought heavy rainfall and strong winds across the New York metropolitan area.
At approximately 3:27 pm a tree fell across the northbound tracks near 20 Av on the line in Brooklyn. Crews worked to remove the tree and additional debris by cutting it into several pieces and removing the debris from the tracks.
Shortly after 8:15 p.m. crews successfully cleared the tracks of all tree debris.
“Extreme weather events can be unexpected and fast-moving, but New York City Transit’s hardworking team were well prepared, quickly responding with the tools necessary to get the job done,” said New York City Transit Senior Vice President for Subways Demetrius Crichlow. “I want to thank the entire Subways team for answering the call, keeping service disruptions to a minimum ensuring customers continued to get to where they needed to go amidst the heavy rainfall and very strong winds.”
MTA Communications kept customers updated in real-time, delivering weather-related updates to hundreds of thousands of riders across the Authority’s website, apps, e-mail alert distribution system and digital signage during the disruption to service, which included select trains being diverted onto the and lines.
Regular service was restored at approximately 8:40 p.m.
