The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today honored eleven New York City Transit employees for their perfect attendance as New York City Transit officials presented each employee with a certificate of excellence and trophy to honor their commitment at a breakfast this morning at MTA headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

Each employee honored has not taken a sick day in at least 20 years, with some employees going as long as 31 consecutive years without taking a sick hour or day.

“These employees embody everything New York City Transit is about, and I wanted them to know their efforts do not go unnoticed,” said New York City Transit President Richard Davey. “Their unwavering commitment to show up literally every day to keep the system humming for millions of customers is appreciated not just today, but every day.”

“It is truly remarkable when you look at the numbers behind some of these attendance records—11,323 days and 271,746 hours without a sick day. That is amazing,” said New York City Transit Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow. “These employees are the gold standard, and we cannot thank them enough for their hard work in keeping New York City on the move.”

Poshan Sukhoo, a maintenance supervisor in New York City Transit’s Car Equipment Department who joined the agency in 1991, has gone 31 years without taking a single sick day.

“My motivation to report for duty comes without hesitation and with ease because of how much I love my job, my co-workers and pleasant work environment,” said Sukhoo. “I give credit to traditional household cooking, a family history of longevity, and gardening for keeping me healthy enough to have perfect attendance.”
