Timeline
- Q3–Q4 2024: Construction of the interim bus terminal at a commercial parking lot located at 90-01 168 St owned by the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation
- Q1 2025– Q1 2027: Operation of the interim bus terminal until the redevelopment of the 165 St Bus Terminal is completed, at which time MTA NYCT Bus operations will return to the redeveloped site
About the project
MTA New York City Transit is constructing an interim bus terminal which will temporarily replace the existing 165 St/Jamaica Bus Terminal at 89-21 165 St in Jamaica, Queens. The current bus terminal has been acquired by a developer, requiring the MTA and NICE Bus to vacate the premises at the end of December 2024. The buses currently operating from the existing 165 St/Jamaica Bus Terminal would relocate temporarily to the 168 St Interim Bus Terminal located at 90-01 168 St.
The location of the existing and the interim bus terminal sites are important for MTA customers as it provides a centralized transfer point for passengers traveling between Southeastern Queens and Nassau County. The terminal sites proximity to the Jamaica Av commercial corridor are also important for the economic development and investment of the Greater Jamaica area.
It is MTA New York City Transit's intent to return to the 165 St site once it has been redeveloped.
Project benefits
- Adjacent to the current 165 St/Jamaica Bus Terminal, this location is essential for MTA and NICE bus routes and customers, with convenient access to New York City Transit connections.
- Enhances the flow of buses and passengers and upholds all current transfer points between bus routes.
- Enables buses to operate off-street on broader thoroughfares.
- Ensures continued access to the bustling Jamaica Av commercial district for bus routes arriving from Hillside Av.
Community outreach
Since 2023, the MTA has met with all key community stakeholders that surround the site to notify them of our intention to temporarily relocate the bus terminal. The MTA will continue to keep stakeholders informed of all key developments of the project.
