Subway and rail service changes: August 19-22

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

August might be more than halfway over, but there's still plenty of warm weather fun to be had out there. No matter what you've got going on this weekend, we're here to get you where you're going.

These service changes are subject to change, so check the MTA homepage before heading out; it's where you'll find up-to-the-minute information on subway, bus, and rail service.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

Trains are not running between 137 St-City College and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  •  trains are running between South Ferry and 137 St-City College.
  • Free shuttle buses are running along three routes, making stops along the  line:
    • On Broadway between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 215 St, stopping at 207 St on the   line
    • On St. Nicholas Av between 191 St and 168 St
    • On Broadway between 168 St and 137 St-City College
    • Look for signs outside affected stations to locate the shuttle bus stop nearest you
  • For service to/from stations in Washington Heights and Inwood, consider taking the  . Transfer between   trains and   trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

Trains are running on the   line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and W 4 St-Wash Sq in both directions from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of preventative maintenance work.

  • For service to/from Queens Plaza, take the   and transfer to the   at Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av or 34 St-Herald Sq.
  • For service to/from Court Sq-23 St, take the   and transfer to the   at 74 St-Broadway or 5 Av.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/53 St, take the   to 59 St and walk to Lexington Av/63 St. A free transfer is available with OMNY and MetroCard.
  • For service to/from 5 Av/53 St, walk to the nearby 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr station.
  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the  and transfer to/from the  at 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr.
  • For service to/from stations between 50 St and 14 St, use  trains and transfer to the   train at W 4 St-Wash Sq.

 trains, Queens

Trains are not running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center in either direction because of electrical, track, and concrete replacement work. 

  •  trains are running between Broad St and Crescent St, and terminate at Crescent St.
  • For service between Crescent St and Jamaica Center, take a free shuttle bus to/from the Jamaica-Van Wyck station. There, you can catch an   train to/from Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center.
  • Note: J99 buses, which have been running between 121 St and Jamaica-Van Wyck, will not run. These will be replaced by shuttle buses running between Crescent St and Jamaica-Van Wyck.
  • LIRR will cross-honor MetroCards at Atlantic Terminal, Nostrand Av, East New York, Jamaica, Hollis, Queens Village, St Albans, Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale.

 trains, Brooklyn

Trains are not running between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work at Lorimer St and Grand St.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 8 Av and Lorimer St
    • Between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.
  • Free shuttle buses are running between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs. Look for signs outside affected stations to locate the shuttle bus stop nearest you.
  • For direct service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, consider transferring to the   at Broadway Junction, or the  at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

 trains, Brooklyn

Coney Island-bound trains are running on the   line from 36 St in Brooklyn to Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance. 

  • For service to/from 45 St, 53 St, and 59 St, take the  .
  • For service to 8 Av and Fort Hamilton Pkwy, take a Coney Island-bound   train to 62 St and transfer to an Astoria-bound  .
  • For service from 8 Av and Fort Hamilton Pkwy, take an Astoria-bound   to 36 St and transfer to a Coney Island-bound  .
  • For service to 18 Av, 20 Av, Bay Pkwy, Kings Hwy, Avenue U, and 86 St, take a Coney Island-bound   to Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to an Astoria-bound  .
  • For service from 18 Av, 20 Av, Bay Pkwy, Kings Hwy, Avenue U, and 86 St, take an Astoria-bound   to New Utrecht Av and transfer to a Coney Island-bound  .

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville. Look for signs outside affected train stations to locate the shuttle bus stop nearest you.
  •  trains are running between St George and Jefferson Av.

Other service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound trains are running on the express track from Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Brooklyn-bound train.
  • Reminder:   trains replace   service overnights in Brooklyn.

 trains, Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound trains are running on the express track from 3 Av-138 St to Hunts Point Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Brooklyn Bridge-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Queens-bound   and Euclid Av-bound   trains are running on the express track from Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts to Utica Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday because of station improvement work at Lafayette Av.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • Reminder:   trains don't run overnight.

Brooklyn-bound trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of preventative maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Jamaica-bound trains are running on the express track from Kings Hwy to 18 Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Coney Island-bound train.

 trains, Queens

Coney Island-bound trains are running on the express track from Astoria Blvd to Queensboro Plaza from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an Astoria-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches

Trains are not stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday because of track and signal replacement work.

  • Buses will run between Jamaica, Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, and Valley Stream. Transfer to/from train service at Jamaica and Valley Stream.
  • The last trains stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale on Friday night are the 10:43 p.m. from Far Rockaway and the 11:09 p.m. from Atlantic Terminal.
  • Service resumes on Monday morning with the 3:58 a.m. train from Long Beach and the 5:12 a.m. train from Atlantic Terminal.

Hempstead branch

Trains are not running between Jamaica and Hempstead in either direction from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday while we test and commission new signals and track switches near Floral Park. This is in support of the LIRR expansion project.

  • Ronkonkoma trains will stop at Hollis, Queens Village, and Floral Park.
  • For service to/from Elmont-UBS Arena, use the nearby Belmont Park or Queens Village stations.
  • For service to/from Bellerose, transfer at Queens Village for bus service.
  • For service to/from Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, Garden City, and Hempstead, transfer at Mineola for bus service.
  • For service to/from Country Life Press, use the nearby Mineola or Garden City stations.
  • If you can, use nearby New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, or Mineola stations, as bus service will add 30 minutes of extra travel time.
  • The last trains to operate on Friday night are the 11:36 p.m. train from Hempstead and the 11:44 p.m. train from Atlantic Terminal.
  • Service resumes on Monday morning with the 12:16 a.m. train from Hempstead and 1:49 a.m train from Atlantic Terminal.

City Zone

Eastbound trains towards Jamaica are not stopping at Woodside (with the exception of Port Washington branch trains) from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, and from 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

  • For eastbound service to/from Woodside, take the  .
  • Customers may present their train ticket to the station agent at 61 St-Woodside for entry to the subway.
