Subway and rail service changes: August 25-28

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Welcome to the last weekend in August!

We have important news for   and   riders between Manhattan and Queens. Starting Monday, August 28, there will be major service changes on these lines as we replace track and make other repairs on on the 63 St Line.  trains will run on the   line between Manhattan and Queens and weekday  trains will be partially suspended. We'll be adding a special   shuttle train and free shuttle buses, as well as increasing frequencies on weekday   trains to accommodate riders. This important work will improve reliability for the 149,000  riders who travel through this area every day. See detailed information about these service changes, including maps

Here's what's happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  • Downtown   trains are running express from 34 St-Penn Station to Chambers St and bypassing 14 St
  • Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the   line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq
  •  trains aren't running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St
  • trains are running on the  line from 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy
  • Astoria-bound   and 96 St-bound   trains are running on the   line from DeKalb Av to Canal St

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains are not stopping at 14 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday while we make accessibility upgrades.

  • Consider using the nearby 14 St  station. 
  • You can also take an uptown train to 34 St-Penn Station and transfer.
  • Downtown  trains will run on the express track from 34 St-Penn Station (not stopping at 14 St) to Chambers St. For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the   line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from High St, use the nearby York St   station.
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the   to/from Delancey St-Essex St. Transfer between   and   trains at Delancey St-Essex St.
  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St/World Trade Center, take the   train. Transfer between   and   trains at W 4 St-Washington Sq.

 trains, Bronx

 trains are not running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St from 11:30 p.m Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • Free D90 shuttle buses are running between Mosholu Pkwy  and Norwood-205 St.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, use nearby  stations along Jerome Av instead.
  • For Norwood-205 St, take a D90 bus.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
    • Transfer between  trains and D90 buses at Mosholu Pkwy.
  •  trains are running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

 trains, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens

trains are running on the  line from 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av in both directions from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Roosevelt Island and Queens Plaza, stopping at 21 St-Queensbridge and Queensboro Plaza.
  • For service to/from 57 St, use the nearby 57 St-7 Av   station.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/63 St, use the nearby Lexington Av/53 St  station or take the  to/from 34 St-Herald Sq.
  • Note: This service change will continue at all times through early 2024 along with other service changes on the   trains.

 trains are not running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work. 

  • Free F1 shuttle buses are running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For direct service to/from W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the   train.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains are not running between Broadway Junction and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Broadway Junction and 121 St and connect with the  at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
    • For Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, take the  instead.
    • Transfer between  trains and shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck.
    • When exiting at Broadway Junction or Jamaica-Van Wyck, get a GO ticket to re-enter the subway.
  • For AirTrain JFK, use the Howard Beach-JFK Airport  station. Transfer at Broadway Junction.
  •  trains are running between Broad St and Broadway Junction.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains are not running between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy in either direction from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Local between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway.
    • Express between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway, stopping at Broadway Junction.
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For direct train service between Manhattan and East New York, consider taking the   train between 14 St and Broadway Junction.
  •  trains are running between 8 Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Astoria-bound   and 96 St-bound   trains are running via the   line from DeKalb Av to Canal St from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  •  trains will make all  stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Canal St.
  • Reminder: At Canal St, board  trains on the  platform.

    Other service changes

     trains, Brooklyn

      Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
      • Note: Overnight, when  trains normally run local, they'll run express between these stations instead.
      • Reminder:  trains don't run overnight in Brooklyn.

       trains, Bronx

      Wakefield-bound   and Eastchester-bound  trains are running express from 149 St-Grand Concourse to E 180 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvements.

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

       trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

      Uptown  trains are running on the express track from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
      • Overnight, when  trains normally run local, they'll run express.
      •  trains are running every 20 minutes to enable trains to share the express track.

      Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Hunts Point Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

       trains, Brooklyn

      Brooklyn-bound   trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to:

      • 36 St 
      • 59 St 

      from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical work. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

       trains, Queens

      Manhattan-bound   trains run on the express track from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to Queens Plaza from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work. 

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a local Jamaica Center-bound   , Jamaica-bound   , or Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av-bound .
      • Note:   trains do not serve these stations overnight.

       trains, Manhattan

      Uptown   trains are running on the express track from Canal St to 57 St-7 Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

      • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

      Long Island Rail Road service changes

      Oyster Bay Branch

      Oyster Bay Branch trains will be replaced by buses from 7:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday because of the TOBAY Triathlon.

      West Hempstead Branch

      Westbound West Hempstead Branch trains will leave two minutes earlier than normal and bypass St. Albans from 8:45 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of Van Wyck Expressway widening.

      • Westbound service at St. Albans will be provided by Babylon Branch trains to Manhattan, six minutes later than normal. Transfer at Jamaica for service to Brooklyn.

      Metro-North Railroad service changes

      New Canaan Branch

      Trains are not running between New Canaan and Stamford in either direction 24/7 through Friday, September 1 because of track maintenance and bridge repair work.
