Subway and rail service changes: Labor Day Weekend

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Hello, three-day weekend!

On Monday, September 4, subways and buses will run on a Sunday schedule, LIRR will run on a weekend schedule, and Metro-North will run on a Sunday schedule. Unlike usual weekends, most service changes this weekend will continue through Monday night or Tuesday morning. Check out this video to learn why we do construction over three-day weekends.

We're also adding extra railroad trains this weekend to accommodate holiday travelers. Get more details on weekend railroad service.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  • Uptown   trains are running on the express track from Canal St to Midtown
  • Uptown   trains are running on the   and  lines from Jay St-MetroTech to 59 St-Columbus Circle
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running at all
  • Uptown   trains are running on the   line between Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Uptown   trains are running on the   line between Brooklyn and Manhattan

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, uptown   trains are running on the express track from Canal St to:

  • 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal 
  • 59 St-Columbus Circle 

This is because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Reminder: Board uptown   trains on the express platform at 34 St-Penn Station.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 11:15 p.m. Monday, Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the   line from Jay St MetroTech to 34 St-Herald Sq and then via the  line to 59 St-Columbus Circle. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from High St, Fulton St, Chambers St, Canal St, 14 St, 34 St-Penn Station, and 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, take the   train.
  • For service to/from Spring St and 23 St, take a downtown train, or use nearby   train stations, and transfer to/from the   train at 59 St-Columbus Circle.
  • For service to/from 50 St, take the   train. Transfer to/from the   at 7 Av.
  • Reminder:   trains don't run overnight.

 trains, Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday,   trains are not running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St in either direction because of structural maintenance work.

  •  trains are running between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, take the  .
  • Norwood-205 St is connected by a free D90 shuttle bus to Mosholu Pkwy  . Transfer between the   and the   at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains are not running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For direct service to/from W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the   train.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.

 trains, all boroughs

 trains currently aren't running at all until 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track replacement work.

  • Free M90 shuttle buses are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St, take the   train.
  • Reminder: On weekends,   trains already don't run on Sixth Av or Queens Blvd. Take   trains instead.
  • Reminder: When  train service resumes on Tuesday, trains will only run between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and 57 St in Manhattan through early 2024 because of track replacement work.

   trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, uptown   trains are running on the   line from Atlantic Av-Barcays Ctr to Canal St, and not stopping at DeKalb Av. Uptown   trains are running on the   line from DeKalb Av to Canal St. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, take the   train.
  • Overnight,   trains are only running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St, the last stop. Take   trains to continue your trip.
  • Reminder: Board uptown   trains on the   platform at Canal St. Board uptown   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

Other service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains are running on the express track from 14 St to Chambers St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • Overnight, when   trains normally run local, downtown trains will run on the express track between these stations.

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound   trains aren't stopping at Jackson Av from 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Jackson Av, take a Wakefield-bound train, or the Bx4 bus if traveling after 5:50 a.m.
  • Note: Board all   trains on the Wakefield-bound platform at 3 Av-149 St.

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from:

  • 59 St 
  • 36 St 

to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of electrical work. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Brooklyn-bound train.
