Service changes on the F and M lines until April 1, 2024

There will be service changes on the F and M lines between Manhattan and Queens from August 28, 2023 until April 1, 2024 while we replace tracks. Here’s what you need to know.

Service changes and restoration of regular service: March 29-April 1, 2024

Regular service on the  and  lines will be restored on Monday, April 1, 2024. There will be some additional service changes between Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1 as we prepare to resume regular service.

  • The  Shuttle train will stop running at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
    • Free shuttle buses will connect Roosevelt Island, 21 St-Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29 to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 1.
  •  trains will continue to run on the  line between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 1, when regular service will resume.
  •  trains will continue to run between 57 St and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays through Friday, March 29. Regular weekday  service will resume on Monday, April 1. ​ trains will no longer terminate at 57 St and will resume local service between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center.

What we’re doing

From August 28, 2023 until April 1, 2024,  trains will be rerouted between Manhattan and Queens in both directions and weekday  trains will be partially suspended.

  •  trains will run on the  line at all times in both directions between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.
  • On weekdays, trains will not run in either direction between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center and Forest Hills-71 Av and will terminate at 57 St.
  • A special  shuttle train will run every 20 minutes in each direction between Lexington Av/63 St and 21 St-Queensbridge, stopping at Roosevelt Island. The  shuttle train will not run overnight.
  • Free shuttle buses will run between 21 St-Queensbridge and Queens Plaza days and evenings, and between Roosevelt Island, 21 St-Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza overnight.

Why we’re doing it

We’re replacing tracks and making other repairs on the 63 St Line, which is used by  trains between Manhattan and Queens. This will improve reliability for the 149,000  riders who travel through this area every day.

Service changes starting August 28, 2023

  •  trains will run on the  line at all times in both directions between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.
    • Weekdays during rush hour,  trains will run less frequently. Weekday  frequency will be increased.
  • Days and evenings, a special  shuttle train will run every 20 minutes in each direction between Lexington Av/63 St , Roosevelt Island, and 21 St-Queensbridge.
    • Free Q95 shuttle buses will run between 21 St-Queensbridge and Queens Plaza  in both directions.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at 34 St-Herald Sq for service to and from Lexington Av/63 St and the  shuttle train.
  • Overnight, the  shuttle train will not run.
    • Free Q94 shuttle buses will run between Roosevelt Island, 21 St-Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza  in both directions.
  • Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY between 21 St-Queensbridge and Queens Plaza  or Queensboro Plaza . You can also see an agent for a GO Ticket to complete your trip.
  • There will be no  service at 57 St.
    •  trains will terminate at 57 St on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., providing local service between 57 St and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av in both directions.
    • Overnight and on weekends, there will be no service at 57 St. Use nearby stations at 57 St/7 Av  or 5 Av/53 St .

  • On weekdays between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.,  trains will not run between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center and Forest Hills-71 Av in either direction and will terminate at 57 St. There will be no  service at the following stations:
    • 5 Av/53 St 
    • Lexington Av/53 St
    • Court Sq-23 St
    • Queens Plaza
    • 36 St
    • Steinway St
    • 46 St
    • Northern Blvd
    • 65 St
    • Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av
    • Elmhurst Av
    • Grand Av-Newtown
    • Woodhaven Blvd
    • 63 Dr-Rego Park
    • 67 Av
    • Forest Hills-71 Av
  • For service to 5 Av/53 St, Lexington Av/53 St, and Court Sq-23 St and express service to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and Forest Hills-71 Av, take the  or  train.
  • For local service to stations between Queens Plaza and Forest Hills-71 Av, take the  train.
    • Weekday  frequency will be increased during this service change.
  •  trains will continue to operate between Delancey St-Essex St and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av in both directions during late evenings and weekend days, and between Myrtle Av and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av overnight.

  • Weekdays during rush hour,  trains will run less frequently and  service to Jamaica/179 St  will be suspended.
    •  trains will run more frequently.

Capital projects continue on other parts of the  and  routes during 63 St Line work. Other planned service changes may affect your trip.

Station-specific information

57 St

  • There will be no  service at this station. 
    •  trains will terminate at this station on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., providing local service to and from Middle Village-Metropolitan Av.
    • For local service between this station and Forest Hills-71 Av, use nearby 57 St-7 Av . For express service between this station and Forest Hills-71 Av, use nearby 5 Av/53 St .
  • During weeknights between 9 p.m and 6 a.m., and on weekends, there will be no service at this station.
    • Use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av  or 5 Av/53 St .

Lexington Av/63 St

  • Days and evenings, the  shuttle train will run between Lexington Av/63 St, Roosevelt Island, and 21 St-Queensbridge.
  • The  shuttle train will not run overnight.
    • For service to and from Roosevelt Island, the Roosevelt Island Tram operates from 6 a.m. until 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 3:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  •  trains will continue to serve this station at all times. Additional connections to Queens are available at nearby Lexington Av/59 St . Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY.

Roosevelt Island

  • Days and evenings, the  shuttle train will connect this station with Lexington Av/63 St  and 21 St-Queensbridge.
    • For service to and from Manhattan, transfer to or from the  train at Lexington Av/63 St. You can also transfer for free out-of-system to or from  trains at Lexington Av/59 St with MetroCard or OMNY.
    • For service to and from Queens, free Q95 shuttle buses will run between 21 St-Queensbridge and Queens Plaza  trains are also available at nearby Queensboro Plaza. Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY or see an agent for a GO Ticket to complete your trip.
  • Overnight, there will be no service at this station.
    • Free Q94 shuttle buses will run between this station, 21 St-Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza  trains are also available at nearby Queensboro Plaza. Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY or see an agent for a GO Ticket to complete your trip.
    • Q102 buses run between Roosevelt Island, 21 St-Queensbridge, Queensboro Plaza , Queens Plaza , and Astoria until 1 a.m.
    • For service to and from Manhattan, the Roosevelt Island Tram operates from 6 a.m. until 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 3:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

21 St-Queensbridge

  • Days and evenings, the  shuttle train will connect this station with Roosevelt Island and Lexington Av/63 St .
    • For additional service to and from Manhattan, transfer for free out-of-system to or from  trains at Lexington Av/59 St with MetroCard or OMNY.
    • For service to and from Queens, walk or take free Q95 shuttle buses to Queens Plaza  trains are also available at nearby Queensboro Plaza. Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY or see an agent for a GO Ticket to complete your trip.
  • Overnight, there will be no service at this station.
    • For service to and from Manhattan, walk or take free Q94 shuttle buses to Queens Plaza  trains are also available at nearby Queensboro Plaza. Transfer for free out-of-system with MetroCard or OMNY or see an agent for a GO Ticket to complete your trip.
    • For service to and from Roosevelt Island, take free Q94 shuttle buses.
